Normally, on Rails, you would have to edit a locale YAML in order to change static strings on your site.
It is far more intuitive than the current approach, and it is almost transparent to the engineers.
You can read about the gem here. Its demo is here.
After a meeting with other Rails engineers in Thailand, I have got a few more ideas. Here they are:
- Stop using the database and store all the static strings in a YAML file. It enables engineers to modify YAML (if they'd like to) and other stakeholders to change static strings through the UI.
- Engineers can download the YAML file.
- Connect to Amazon S3 for hosting the YAML file if the site is hosted on Heroku.
- Versioning the YAML file. So, every change will never be lost.
